Jacket has moderate abrasion with shallow creases and short nicks along upper edges; stronger with 1/4" long x 1/4" deep triangular chip upper spine end. Includes a detailed account of the 23 wooden naval steamers known collectively as the 90 day gunboats-the first numerous class of identical vessels in any navy. Also a re-evealuation of Bushnell's submarine, built early in the American Revolution, showing it to be one of the subtlest technological triumphs of the age, and one that failed only because it was misused. Fascinating reading and important historical detail.
