    Description: 8vo-over 7¾"-9¾" tall.
    Condition: Near Fine. No Jacket
Notes: Marie-Anne Adelaide Normand (1772-1843) was a famous professional fortune-teller; he rather scandalous account of Josephine was published originally in 1820. There is no publication date on this copy (Volume One only of Two). Potter published the First American edition in 1847; Quercus believes this to be a later reprint from about 1865-1870 (judged mainly by its format), a Near Fine copy. Brown decorative cloth binding, stamped and a gilt crown on the front cover; fancy gilt titling on the spine. Clean text; xx111, 330 pages (but the pagination actually begins at 34). Very bright, fresh, and clear. Several small previous-owner stamps. Interestingly, this copy has bound-in a color Presentation page (not filled in). The translation from the original French is by the Michigan politician Jacob Merritt Howard (1805-1871). Some very light rubbing to the head and foot of the spine; else a Fine copy.
