Notes: Three volumes. First edition of Scott's novel, published anonymously (as was his wont at the time) and in three volumes (as intended) for practical reasons. Especially taking these books age into account, they are benign, much owned, resolute. The spines have been repaired with leather strips. The leathered corners are much worn but even yet, benign. The marbled boards are much worn, scuffed, marked. They are placid and steady. The contents of each book are gently aging. They are however, comfortable, clear, convivial, certain, assured, competent and companionable. fk.
