A reprint of the first edition, restricted to 404 copies. This copy is one of the 350 printed to 'toned paper'. Published as a part of the Shelley Society second series of Shelley's works. Direct from the library of the late Hugh Selbourne MD (1906-1973) a noted book collector and diarist. The compilation and editorial factors of this work were by Bertram Dobell, who writes the prefatory note. Alastor or, The Spirit of Solitude was first published in 1816. It is considered to be one of the first of Shelley's major poems. The poem initially received negative reviews due to its obscurity. However, there were positive reviews written for Blackwood's Edinburgh Magazine and The Examiner. In original paper covered boards. Externally, generally smart. Age toning and rubbing to the paper covered boards and spine. A few small marks to the rear board. Internally, generally firmly bound though strained in places. Pages are bright with scattered spots to the first and last few pages. Very Good Indeed.
