Hello from Renn Lake
by Michele Weber Hurwitz

Overview -
The environmental activism of Hoot meets summer friendship of Lemons in this heartfelt story about community, conservation, and standing up for the things you love.

It's summer in Wisconsin, which means twelve-year-old Annalise is helping out at her parents' lakeside cabins. Annalise has always had a special relationship with Renn Lake. She was abandoned near it as a baby; as a toddler, she discovered that she could hear Renn's voice. Growing up, the lake has been the place where she goes when she needs reassurance.

This summer, Annalise's little sister dreams of becoming an actress instead of helping out around the cabins. And Annalise's best friend is on babysitting duty. But there's Zack, a boy staying at the cabins, who always carries a science book and a magnifying glass. Then Renn tells Annalise that she doesn't feel well. There's a small patch of green among the reeds, and a fish washes up dead.

The patch quickly grows into a toxic algae bloom. No one can go in the water, and Annalise can't hear her beloved Renn. Reservations at the cabins are canceled, and the family's livelihood is at stake. Annalise teams up with her friends to save the lake.

The story is told by two narrators--Annalise and Renn Lake.
